OneDrive is a part of the Office 365 suite of products. It offers cloud-based file storage. This allows you to access your files from anywhere and can help free up hard drive space on your computer. Additionally, you can collaborate on documents with others in OneDrive. Everyone has access to OneDrive through their U.C. account.

What is OneDrive?

OneDrive is an online cloud storage system within Office 365 that allows students, staff and faculty to securely store their documents and files. OneDrive allows students, staff and faculty to collaborate and share files with fellow classmates and colleagues, both internally and externally. OneDrive is unique in that it offers many security, sharing, and accessibility features for many document and file types.

Who can use OneDrive?

All current students, staff and faculty of the University of Cincinnati have access to a free OneDrive account. If you are not a currently enrolled student but are registered for classes, you must wait for the start of your registered term to access OneDrive. University of Cincinnati affiliates or contractors will need to request access in order to get a OneDrive account. UC affiliates or contractors must have an active UCMail account in order to request access to OneDrive.

Why should I use OneDrive?

OneDrive is free to all students, staff and faculty. OneDrive also includes the ability to easily collaborate with colleagues with advanced sharing and security features. OneDrive is also easily accessible with the OneDrive mobile and desktop apps, and strong integration with Office 365. With OneDrive, you’ll be able to access all of your files from any computer or device from anywhere in the world.

How much storage do I have?

All OneDrive users have 1 TB of storage with their account to start, but this can be increased by request. There is, however, a file size limit of 15 GB per file on OneDrive. OneDrive also supports most file types Links to an external site..

Where is my data stored on OneDrive?

OneDrive data is stored securely in the cloud by Office 365. The University of Cincinnati has entered a business associate agreement with Microsoft, which assures that OneDrive data does not leave the United States and is fully encrypted on upload, storage and download.

How do I setup my account?

What if I leave the University?

Students will be able to access their OneDrive accounts as long as their student email remains active. Staff and faculty accounts will be disabled upon leaving the university.

What do I do if I forget my password?

OneDrive accounts use the Central Login Service (CLS) passwords to authenticate. If you forget your CLS password, visit Password Self Service Links to an external site. and click forgot password. If you need helping resetting your password, contact the IT@UC Helpdesk at (513) 556-HELP (4357).

Does OneDrive replace Box at UC?

Yes, over the next year all Box accounts and content will be migrated over to OneDrive.

Does OneDrive replace UCFileSpace storage?

No, OneDrive is not a full replacement for UCFileSpace. OneDrive is the preferred alternative to the file storage portion of UCFileSpace due to OneDrive’s increased storage, sharing and security features. OneDrive at UC doesn’t replace UCFileSpace’s web hosting, MySQL, Unix command line shell scripting and blog/wiki creation.

Does OneDrive replace personal and departmental network share drives?

No, OneDrive is not a replacement for personal and departmental network share drives. Employees may know these as their P:\ (Personal) and S:\ (Share) drives. OneDrive is an alternative to these network share drives. OneDrive provides users with more control over their data by adding unlimited storage, sharing and security features that network drives do not provide. OneDrive allows employees to have better control over file sharing with advanced sharing and collaboration features.

How should I manage restricted data in OneDrive?
